PRESS RELEASE – Phillip Island Podiums

Phillip Island proved AGI Sport’s most successful round of the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship yet with driver Will Brown and jimmy Vernon winning second and third for the weekend respectively.

Will Brown started P3 and managed to dice with the front runners early before an ignition problem cut power to the car and he slipped to the back of the grid. However he never lost sight of the prize and battled his way back to 6th place to secure enough points for both Rookie of the Round and outright second place for the weekend.

Will was very happy to bank the points, “It was unfortunate we had a fuel and ignition problem for the final race which took us back to tenth but we managed to get it back up to sixth and that was enough to give us third for the round.

‘That puts us just in front of Harry (Hayek) in the rookie awards and that would be good cos it’s quite a bit of money towards next year.”

Jimmy Vernon put on some gutsy driving in the final race of the weekend. He started the final race in P5 but had used his new tyres to good advantage in Race 2 leaving him with used rubber for the final race. Jimmy still managed a hard fought 7th place finish and his earlier points put him third on the podium for the round.

Jimmy was happy with another successful weekend, “It was a pretty good weekend for us, we made a lot of personal bests in getting second in race 2 but we sort of let ourselves down a little bit in Race 3 when we didn’t have the new tyres of the rest of the field, we capitalised on it in race 2 but then it hindered us a little bit in race 3.

Tom Grech kept smiling despite a weekend that would have many pulling their hair out. After a fuel surge robbed him of a podium finish on Saturday Tom had smashed his IQ Option Racing F4 car from a fifth place start into third when a wheel on the gravel caught and he slipped off the track and fell to the rear of the field before limping back into the pits.
