PRESS RELEASE – AGI Sport drivers both on the podium in Queensland.

AGI Sport/SCT Logistics Formula 4 team has seen both its drivers take to the podium this weekend with Nick Rowe picking up third for the round and Jack Smith winning his first Rookie of the Round award.

Queensland Raceways didn’t prove to be the most exciting track for open wheelers so qualifying well was going to be particularly important.

Nick was happy starting off P2 for the first race of the weekend

“ We qualified second, not far off the pole sitter Harry and I was planning on getting a good start, I didn’t quite get the best start and we got into second there.’

“There was a safety car two laps in and that lasted for a fair bit of the race and then we got a good safety car restart on cold tyres.’

“Then he (Harry Hayek) got a bit of a gap about five car lengths and I just couldn’t quite pick back at him.

“I just tried to keep my head down and stay in front of the people I’m battling in the Championship.”

Jack Smith was hard on himself despite holding his position throughout the race.

“My race start was pretty average to be honest. I lost a position but luckily or unfortunately for Simon he locked up at the last corner and I got the position back but other than that it was a standard race, having to defend with Denton right behind me.” Jack said.

The drive kept Jack ahead of the other rookies and he gained some good defensive skills in the final two races to finish up with the Bursons Rookie of the Round Award.

“Race 3 at Qld Raceway didn’t exactly go to plan, I made a few mistakes, lost a few spots but overall we still got Rookie of the Round and it’s been a positive weekend for us. ‘

“It’s a pretty fun track to drive around, I don’t think it really produced the most exciting racing.’

“My start was pretty good, I made up a position off the start, I got Jordan off the start but he got me back pretty quick but yes, starts are definitely improving.” Jack said.

Jack’s goal is to finish the season with the Rookie title and he is well placed to do so with just two rounds to go.

Nick Rowe couldn’t quite capitalise on his P2 start in the final race and ended up third on the podium.

“P3, we started second, got a pretty good start but just not as good as Will (Brown) and he got me on the start there. ‘

“Had a good battle, actually had good speed for the first four or five laps, I was able to keep them quite easy and then just didn’t quite have enough when they started picking up the pace we just didn’t quite have that little bit more to keep up with them.’

“But that’s alright, we still got third for the round, only lost a few points to Will for the Championship so we are still in the battle. “

Both drivers take an eight week break from Formula 4 now with the next round at Victoria’s Sandown Raceway 17-19th September.
