DRIVER QUOTES – Race Two at Sandown

The Formula 4 drivers talk us through Race two in their own words.

JORDAN LOVE – 3rd place

“Race 2 was a really good race for us, got a good result, ended up third so pretty happy with that. We had a good start, second off the start and managed to hold Randle off for third for three laps but he was just quicker than us so he got past and got a bit of a gap.

‘After that it was just a matter of keeping consistent and no mistakes and we managed to do that. Grech was coming every lap and he kept coming but I managed to hold him off and keep third position, which I’m really happy about so hopefully we can continue the process on to Race 3 tomorrow.”

TOM GRECH – 4th place

“Race 2 went a little bit better, we got up to fourth in the end. Again there was just so much carnage at the start, it was good to get through the first few laps with no damage and settled into fourth. Unfortunately just couldn’t catch Jordan there in the end but give it a go tomorrow.

‘The nature of Sandown is so bumpy. It’s very easy to lock a wheel or out-brake yourself and it’s a fast track so I think it entitles everyone to push a bit harder and also there’s so much on the table for everyone here.”

JIMMY VERNON – 8th place

“In Race 2 we started out of fourth and got a just about perfect launch and before I knew it I was up the inside on Turn 1 and going for the move for first. Got squeezed up on the inside kerb a little bit, made a little bit of contact, made myself run wide and again I was at the back of the field.

‘I’m not sure where we finished, seventh or eighth but I think we had the fourth fastest time so still a positive to take out of the race.

‘I’m looking forward to tomorrow because we’ve got a quick car and we just need all the cards to fall into place.”

CAITLIN WOOD – 9th place

“Thanks to all the penalties from Race 1 it bumped me up a spot, I got pole. It was a little bit of a surprise, I wasn’t really expecting it first time in an F4 car. It was a really cool experience, leading them round on the roll-up lap.

‘We didn’t get a really great start, not one I was expecting. I got a really good initial launch but then I hit too much wheel spin and a few of the guys just got past.

‘There was an incident at turn 2 and I had no where to go so I just went grass, I got some air so I went flying for a little bit and I had a bit of damage for the rest of the race which made it a bit tricky but we ended up finishing so that’s the main thing.”

WILL BROWN – 11th place

“Copped a bit of a penalty after Race 1 for taking my team mate out and I got 30 seconds for that which put me back to eighth for this race.

‘It was an action packed race. The start was pretty good, went from eighth to I think about fourth or fifth maybe. Had a bit of bad luck in the race, the bolts weren’t done up on my rear wing so I was forced to pit with about four or five laps to go and got out for the last lap.

Race 3 tomorrow, we’ve saved our two tyres so hopefully we put them on and move forward from where we are now.”
