PRESS – SNAKE RACING/AGI SPORT takes outright lap record at Sydney Motorsport Park
Snake Racing AGI SPORT Formula 3 driver Nathan Gotch has set a new lap record on the new GP North circuit layout at Sydney Motorsport Park. Nathan’s time of 58.89 seconds beat the previous Formula 3 record by a substantial 1.9 seconds and shaved 0.1 of a second off the prior outright record set by Adam Procter in a Stohr WF-1.
Nathan said, “It felt really good, we only had a small window to get the job done, by the time the tyres finally came on in lap 4 we were actually catching the tail of the field, luckily we got one hot lap in!”
The NSW based Formula 3 team had a successful weekend increasing their points lead in the NSW Formula 3 Championship by winning the first 2 races and fighting back from 9th to 2nd during the final race after stalling on the grid.
Team Manager Adam Gotch said of the second place, “Nathan did well to recover in Race 3, another lap or two and it could have been 3 from 3. It gave him a good opportunity to practise his race craft coming back through the field and we are very happy with the overall result of the weekend.”
Driver Nathan Gotch also praised the new North circuit. “The new up-and-over between turns 4 and 5 was really exciting, it makes for a really quick lap but that just adds another element to racing at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Snake Racing / AGI SPORT Formula 3 team have concentrated on a state level program this year ahead of a full national assault next year. Nathan has driven in 2 of the 5 National rounds this season to finish 5th in the national points with Hayden Cooper winning outright. The team hope to secure the NSW State F3 Championship at the final round held at Wakefield Park, Goulburn on November 3 & 4, 2012.
