PRESS RELEASE – NICK ROWE FINISHES SECOND IN F4 CHAMPIONSHIP
The streets of the Gold Coast were a fitting finish to the 2017 CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship with the hotel high-rises framing a tight and unforgiving track.
The racing was frantic and furious with the final points of the championship at stake.
Nick Rowe managed to keep off the walls and on the road for some steady laps and handy sectors. Will Brown was keen to sew up the championship which he did by Race 2 of the weekend. Nick kept a level head and an unfailing pace to secure second place in the championship.
“I finished third in Race 3, fourth for the round, three thirds for the weekend so it was a good consistent weekend which gives us second in the championship which is a great result for the team. I can’t thank all the boys enough for all their hard work during the year,” Nick said.
“It was one of the funniest years I’ve had with all the boys racing I can’t thank everyone enough. SCT Logistics for the awesome support, AGI Sport as always,” he continued.
The Queensland sun had most of the teams wearing shorts with the GC600 famous for its carnival atmosphere but on track the racing was just a competitive and classy as ever.
“The streets of the Gold Coast they were pretty crazy, the last race there we had a couple of downshift issues through turn one chicane, which was pretty crazy. Over all it was a bit damp out there for the last race as well but over all it was a pretty good weekend out there, a lot of fun,” said Nick.
Jack Smith put in some great laps during practice but unfortunately a couple of incidents put paid to the first two races and electrical issues following a rebuild had him sidelined for Race 3.
“The whole season has been really great for me, the learning, just the racing, everything has been really great as a first year in cars for me. Everyone around is great people. My team mate Nick has been really good and overall it’s been a productive year,” Jack said.
“Racing around the Gold Coast, it’s clearly a great event, it’s a great track. It hasn’t been the best weekend for me, I think driving on a street circuit has been a bit of a challenge and I think it’s going to take me a bit of time to really get the hang of it but as an event its been unreal,” he continued.
“The cars are really great to drive, they’re heaps of fun and I think they are a pretty good learning car for anyone looking to get into car racing. The series is great, in the future it will definitely work, I think in the next few years it will be really good series in Australia, not that it isn’t now,” Jack finished.
And now we look ahead to 2017 with the calendar to be announced early in November. Twelve scholarships are also available for ambitious drivers wanting to get into a Formula 4 seat for 2017.
