PRESS RELEASE – AGI SPORT confirms another Formula 4 driver for Symmons Plains opener
AGI Sport has signed 19-year-old Joshua Conroy as another driver for the opening round of the 2016 CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains this weekend.
Joshua has come up through the ranks of Super Sports and Radical cars, most recently coming 3rd in the 2014 NSW Super Sports Championship. In 2015, Josh worked with Dark Energy Racing as a junior engineer in the 2015 Japanese Super Formula.
AGI Sport Team Principal Adam Gotch was enthusiastic about the deal, “ To have a young driver of Josh’s motorsport pedigree is exciting. His father Peter Conroy recognises the value of Formula 4 as an important step in his son’s motorsport career”.
Josh was also delighted, “I’m taking this opportunity to put a toe in the water in a national open wheel category having stepped out of a Radical competing at NSW State level”.
‘I’m confident I can learn the car quickly due to my race car engineering experience particularly being involved with Japanese Super Formula”, he said.
“With less karting habits to break than some of my competitors I think I will get my head around the F4 driving technique relatively quickly”.
The 2016 CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship will race for the first time at the Symmons Plains V8 Supercar event in Tasmania The new category focuses on driver development and being both nationally and internationally relevant.
After it’s inaugural year in 2015, five Australian Formula 4 drivers kick-started their careers overseas including Luis Leeds who signed a five year career development deal with Red Bull Racing.
The championship will contest 6 rounds in 2016 including Symmons Plains, Phillips Island, Sydney Motorsport Park, Ipswich Raceway, Sandown and the Gold Coast street circuit.
